Hello, I received last week Crookwood's new Painpot which looks and feels different then the older version I had. New Paintpot is a little higher then the older version. Direct inputs added. Option for ADC. New Paintpot stays cool also after many hours switched on, old version got pretty hot. Painpots indicates now on 2 LCD displays the amount of amplification. New Paintpot does not have anymore the M/S decoder. New Paintpot does not have anymore an EQ. The New Paintpot sounds fantastic. Excellent service from Crookwood. I have posted on the thread"What's up with classical piano recordings these days?" a small audio sample made with the new Paintpot, DPA4060 & Korg MR-1000. Cheers Crispin. Gaston

Your new Paintpot sounds like the one I bought last January... or is this a new, new one (third generation) that's just come out? And, yes, it does sound good. If you got the ADC option, how do you like it? |

No I don't think it is a third generation Paintpot. Yes you were right, it does have already the physical digital outputs however no ADC card installed. Maybe I will buy a ADC in the future, need to save some money first ![]() Gaston |

Painfull??? I wished I had met Onno and discovered this device 15 years ago, that is what I call painfull. I have wasted so much gear/money in the past due to false information etc etc Gaston |

Crispin is a member here and sometimes posts, however, I think I can shed some light on the new paintpot, i-pre's. Crispin re jigged the boards so that they were more cost effective to build. In doing this he decided to remove the MS and EQ circuits of the original. He also told me that he has improved the power supply design. The ADC, I believe, is a new "samplerate converting" design that he is really proud of. I've not had the opportunity to try out the ADC's yet, but knowing Crispin as I do, I am sure that they will have sparkling performance. As a designer of professional audio equipment, Crispin is that rare individual who not only understands the electronic side, but the practical issues and compromises that all designs entail. Often I've seen equipment that excels in one area, but because the designer gets so single minded about their own personal philosophy, is too far compromised in other areas to achieve this. For me, Crispin gets the balance right. Regards Roland |
