how can i make the calculation to understand what my rack (pre+ audio card and so on) need between 10 or 16 amp?

I would add the amps that each piece draws and than add 25% minimum as a safety factor. That is my amateur opinion.

Why do you need a conditioner for portable equipment? I have never used a conditioner so please tell me about what you are doing.

Thanks, grazia.

I worked with a friend who had a power conditioned that read the Amps he was using. Between an interface, laptop, daul mic pre w/ phantom power, and Central Station, he was only using about 2 amps or less at any given time.

Cheers.

i have found these info in the web.

Furman sued by Surgex for false advertising.

Claim is that Furman promotes their MOV products as series mode surge suppressors. MOV products are not as effective as Series Mode.

Series Mode surge suppressors are from Zero Surge, Brickwall, and Surgex.

Dear Luigi, here the answer by Martin from Surgex:

"Alessandro,

Thank you for your interest in SurgeX. We will have 220 volt rack products available in January. I can have someone contact you as soon as they become available in Italy.

Best Regards,

Martin M. Dornfeld
VP Sales
SurgeX®"

in the US, I like to use ART 4x4 power distribution which monitor inbound voltage as well as amperage draw.

To determine what I needed, I took the jacket off a power cable, and used a Fluke clamp-on ammeter from the entire rack (or set of gear I intended to run off a circuit) to read the draw during full use/load playback.

I never found a rack of studio gear that was drawing over 4-5 amps. Most of my studio racks together draw 6.5 amps on a single 15 amp circuit.

A long time ago, I found I could run my entire remote truck's recording gear on a single 15 amp circuit. I found out the hard way that off solar batteries, most of my gear could also run at significantly reduced voltage- try 89-90 volts instead of 110. Scary, but possible.

The ART 4x4's are a fine little unit -very cheap and nice metering- but not great like SurgEx. I like SurgEx a great deal. They stand by their products and build with quality.

I used to buy a lot of Furman products. I can't say the same about their build quality or customer service.

Hope this helps!

JvB
