Question Wendt X3 or Sound Devices 302

Hello All,

I'm looking for a way to occasionally mix a third channel into my 722 and am looking at either the Wendt X3 or the Sound Devices 302. They seem to have pretty similar features. How do they compare in the field? Batt life, reliability, etc.

Any other ideas besides these two boxes?

Thanks.

Hi, I used the SD 302 with my 722 and the sound is amazing. They are a good combo and made for each other I'm sure. I never used the other preamp/mixer you mentioned so I cannot say anything. You will not go wrong with the 302>722 setup!

I own a SD 302 & a Wendt X5. I would say the SD-302 is a superior machine than the X3. One handy feature on the 302 is that you can use the stereo monitor jack as inputs 4&5, thing the X3 can't do. As per battery life you can run either mixers over 10 hrs with a single batch of batteries. IMO the pre-amps on the Sound Devices are better that those on the Wendt. Also the Wendt mixers are known for RF prone issues. One thing I dislike about my 302 is that a lot of features are software enabled, as opposed to on board physical switches but still performs as advertised.
I'm attaching an low-res picture of my 302/702t rig...
