Thread Starter | I haven't gotten that far in the manual yet (135 pages). But you can always scale the video down to SD in post. As it is, I'll need to scale it to 720p since I don't have any HD displays or cpu's greater than 2GHz. Something I've already done with the few samples I've obtained. Just to verify that it wont be an issue. I still need to make it out to Best Buy to acquire samples first hand to verify with 1st generation footage. In the meantime the Canon EOS 5D Mk II is looking nice. But pricey. |

I guess I'll give an update. I did make it out to Best Buy and acquired some samples from the HG20. Very nice. After much effort I am able to convert the content to more common formats. At least more playable formats on current processing power. The current processing power I have at my fingertips takes about 4x's to 8x's longer than the original video clip length to generate a 720p version from 1080i. I should be able to half that or better with a processor upgrade. General obervations. Content runs at about 1GB per five minutes of 60 fps x 1920 width x 1080 height interlaced content. So it looks like I'm gonna need to upgrade storage capacities before taking the plunge. And playing back in realtime seems to favor processors around 3GHz or better, with 1GB of RAM or more. So I'm gonna need to upgrade that as well, given my lowly 1.9GHz dual core. Which should just be a CPU swap on my desktop. In the meantime I got a tv card so I can get used to recording and editing. While I save up and gear up for the bigger investment(s). |
