Talking Recording a handbell choir

I went searching the gearslutz archives for info about recording a handbell choir, and was amazed to see that the search term "handbell" scored zero matches.

I googled around, and this appears to be the most/best info I could find. Anybody with more experience want to update with theirs?

I just did a recording with handbell choir. Use he church's sanctuary iff possible. Put the choir in a U shape and a pair of spaced omnis. Start about 6 feet back and 9 feet up and use your ears until you hear a balance. Leave lots of headroom! The dynamic range is huge, plus the noise floor will be an issue. Make sure they turn off Heat/AC and check for flourescent lights. Try to monitor outside of the room. Best of luck!

Thanks Don!

I should add that I'm not sure I can get the handbell choir into a U shape (strange sancturary space). They are all in a line, about 6' in front of a (very tall) wall, about 2' in front of a row a pews leading down to the center of the church. How many mics, placed where, would you use for this situation?

Anybody?
