Question What to do in amsterdam when you have a few hours to kill?

I am playing two nights at concertgebouw with my orchestra.
I will have a few hours on the second day between the dress and the concert.
(I am a non smoker...)

If you like some beer, I'd recommend this place:

Proeflokaal "In de Wildeman"

And if the weather is nice, you could go hang in the Vondelpark! Which is not far from the concertgebouw.

the rijks museum is pretty amazing. Also if you collect records there's a great shop opposite the Paradiso venue.

Playing the concertgebouw? Nice!!

From the concertgebouw you can walk to the vondelpark. the area around the vondelpark is pretty nice to walk around in.
Also, you can walk into the city center from there.

Playing in the Concertgebouw wow! I fulfilled an ambition to go and experience the peerless acoustics last month. We were only there for a few days and managed to hear Welsh bass baritone Bryn Terfel and his accompanist. 2,300 audience and no sound reinforcement, wonderful.

I second the Rijks museum. Have a great concert, it's a great acoustic.

Haha. I think we all know what to do. If you're a non-smoker then get the space cakes in before you have a little visit to the red-light district.

Or the museums are nice too....

what a great city!
I ended up just walking aimlessly around and enjoying the city, I loved it!

The concertgebouw was fantastic, two sold out concerts and the best audience I have ever played for.
The hall sounds great out in the audience and it feels great to play on stage. you her yourself very well and everyone on your level and up is easy to hear.
It took some intent listening to play ensemble across the stage and down below you, but it was manageable.
isabelle von keulen must be the loudest violinist I have ever heard.
I heard things from her I have not even heard in seriously jacked up recordings (mendelssohn)
I can't wait to work with her again as she is a sweetheart.

She is a true artist!
The only other string player I know of with that kind of dynamic range is the Lynn Harrel
he is also a really sweet person.
Maybe there is a correlation between dynamic range and how nice you are

If you are into gear............check out the little studio they built in the top of the building. Some nice gear there.

As mentioned here before, the van Gogh museum is only a 5 minutes walk away. Hope the weather is good when you are there!

Sven

.......and you already were there I see now....

That is great to hear. One my colleague's went to one of those concerts!
He is married to a Swedish women and he told me that he went to the Concertgebouw to an orchestra from Sweden.
They are classic music lovers and they liked your performance.
And Amsterdam is a great city. :-)
