Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.

The three console work-flow is a way to handle different departments or multiple band situations...

Let us say, it's a music show for television:
The main (center) desk could handle the music mix, while one of the other consoles is on top of the playback sources and/or (talking heads) host and such mics, while the other mixer is set-up as the house band or other element of the show.

And, that's just one possibility.

Hey, Steve, it's been a while! I want to stop by sometime soon, just been swamped lately. Where did those fancy consoles come from? Are you branching out?
