| Thanks a lot Thomas. Yes indeed, we did make a lot of progress in the last few months. I wish you were in the NYC area to see all the great work our new carpenter is doing. Dave is simply awesome in so many ways. Wait until you see the front I/O racks which have an angled two spaced rack for meters and a phase scope; above that are the speaker table tops. All the woodwork is out of Teak. ...After having to say, "Elroy's not available" for more than twenty on location dates this year alone, I seriously had to do something about it. We lost out on two very high profile dates this year and that was the last straw for me. Getting this rig up and running is a high priority. We're now putting in three to five days a week getting the remaining carpentry done. Ah yes, the back door shall be a blast resistant glass door with a liquid crystal laminate. The actual size of the door (at the moment) shall be 45" wide by 76" tall. I may go a bit wider or a bit narrower. The glass dimensions are 39" wide by 66" tall. We're removing the lift gate we installed awhile back and installing a state-of-the-art MBB lift gate which shall also provide protection by completely covering the glass door when in transit. This new Cantilever lift gate shall also house the stairs when theu're not in operation. After we finish the remaining woodwork, all we need to get done to become operational is install the backdoor, new lift gate and HVAC system. There are a few other things to address, but that should not stop us from launching this long awaited endeavour. Since we are make a lot more headway, I've been holding off on another photo session. I want to get a lot more done before I post more pictures. I will post them as soon as possible or when it feels right. And, while all this is happening, we're also working towards getting Cosmo on the road. We just finish redesigning the field shop to handle Cosmo, which is five feet longer that Jethro was. You see, Cosmo is replacing Jethro in the shop, so the wrap around walkway needed to be modified. Quote:

| I've neglected to keep this thread updated for way too long, so here are some camera phone photos that show the removal of our old stinkin' liftgate, rear door frame and skin. The new high-tech glass studio door is scheduled to be installed in July 2011, so we had to get the framing ready for action! We also had to remove the liftgate since getting to the skin and framing for the additional support framing was paramount. Keep in mind that door weighs 400 plus pounds. The new MBB Interlift liftgate will be installed once the new door and skin in installed... The MBB Interlift liftgate is seriously state-of-the-art. I'm really looking forward that install... More on that awesome device when I get closer to it's delivery. |

| Before I signed off on that high-tech glass entrance door, Marty, Dave and I did a mock up using colored 1/2" gaffer's tape. The yellow tape represents the actual glass window within the studio door. The brown tape represents the door and frame. I wanted to get a feel of the door and the view through it's window. I had Dave stand behind the "door," so I can get an idea of exactly what I would see if I placed the window where I did... It ended up being exactly what I wanted without needing to adjust my original placement. The last picture shows Marty holding the (demo sized) IAC door frame up against the brown tape door frame outline... |

| Great stuff, Steve. You know the peanut gallery is cheering you on. I like the sure methodical approach. It is "The Six P's: "Prior Planning Prevents P-Poor Performance." Army talk, LOL

| Here's a few shots of Dave modeling the high-tech glass laminate. I went with both LC and SPD glass film which will be sandwiched in between the Polycarbonate security glass. The LC is a frost that can be adjusted from transparent to opaque. The SPD is a adjustable tint that will live on the inside of the glass door. |

| Steve, just where is this rig parked??? Do you leave the keys in it or will I have to jump it?? What a beautiful rig. It looks gorgeous aesthetically and I know it is first-rate technically. Stephen Leacock is so right, "The harder I work the better my luck seems to get." My hat is off to you. |

| The metal work is primed and ready to install the nailer wood for the IAC door frame and Fiberglas reinforced plywood surrounding the racks. Once the door is in we shall surround the entrance with beautiful teak wood to finish the job with style just because we can;-) |

| Yeah man, it's been a seriously longtime since I first designed Elroy... I mean, it wasn't even named Elroy when I first got my hands on the vehicle. In any event, Elroy shall be online in August 2011 and that's a beautiful thing! Quote:

| Elroy's High-Tech Glassamajig of Love! I inspected and approved Elroy's SPD / LC Polycarbonate panel assembly. It shipped to the door manufacturer and they installed it into our custom made IAC door. We have two different technologies (SPD & LC) within this massive pane of laminated glass. Clear mode with both SPD and LC lites needs full AC voltage applied to the films. SPD (Smart Glass) tint mode. LC (Liquid Crystal) Privacy mode. The SPD and LC wires exit the laminate from the bottom center. (You can checkout the video footage I uploaded to my facebook video page if you want to see the transition in action.) Thank goodness, no one even thought about tipping this beautiful glassamajig when it shipped to IAC;-) The actual studio entrance door install pictures will follow... |

| And, now for a few pictures of the Elroy's killer new studio entrance door... Checkout post number 63 (in this thread) where I used 1/2" colored Gaffer's tape to create a mock up of the glass door. As I mentioned before, it ended up being exactly how I wanted it without needing to adjust the original placement. |

| Yeah, man! Wait until you see it in person! Tomorrow I plan to sort through the remaining teak we have in the shop, so I can see which pieces will look best on the door and rack frames. I then plan to head up to Condon Lumber in White Plains, NY to buy the wider pieces I need for the top and bottom of the door... Condon Lumber has been my source for teak wood for over 30 years! I love that lumber yard. |
