Question Phantom Power question

Hello all

I have heard many refer to Schoeps as "power hungry" and since standard phantom power is supposed to be around 48 volts (not referring to the 12-volt version here) I imagine that they are referring to the amperage.

I recently had occasion to use my Schoeps with a less-than-stellar live sound board (small A&H GL-series) and will probably have to do this gig again. I was using several other condenser mic's and will probably have to add a few more next time, which will probably include combining two Schoeps via Y-cable on two different channels, so I am concerned about the board's ability to handle powering all of these mic's.

I was wondering what are the signs to listen for if your mic's are not getting enough amperage from phantom power?

Thanks.

Look at the specs of the board.
The best way is to load it with all mics and check the voltage on an unused channel.
Some mics draw around 1 to 2 mills, some even less.
I would be more interested in using higher end pres with a high end mic...
