Question AKG C480: problems in the low mid frequencies?

SOME POST FROM GEARSLUTZ AND THE WEB: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT?

In general, the C 480 B/CK 61-ULSs also delivered a good, sharp attack on all the drums, but lacked some fundamental lower-midrange tone on the kick and snare.

there is some good punch in this recording and the dynamics translate well, but there's certainly some "wool" in the low mids that i might scoop out or roll off. past about halfway through the sample is one line where the violins and cello harmonize that emphasizes this. but that's just me.

2nd the "wool" thing. And there seems to be a certain scratchiness to the recording which I've also found in the few occasions I used a 414, so maybe that's an AKG thing.

The second and third paragraphs are about a recording I did... the comments were aimed more at the recording than the mics. The ROOM was the determining factor due to a prominent bass frequency in the "wooly" sound talked about and simply rolling it off a little fixed it nicely. I don't think the bottom/mids of these mics are in any way out of order.
