hi all, I'm recording a show in a week or two of a band that has quite a few acoustic guitars, now personally I hate the sound of d.i.'d guitar (some guitars excepted), and the band is willing to experiment (yaaay!). my plan is to stick some dpa 4061's in the acc guitars.. logic being: dpa 4061 is small (It's a dvd shoot, visually unobtrusive) and sounds really good, in the guitar equals maximum isolation, and the boomy sound will be tamed by lots of eq... Please share your experience with acoustic guitars, mics, and PA!! |

Try to stick the DPA on top of the guitar facing the strings, more susceptible for feedback, but much better sound. DPA makes a mountingkit for that purpose. Do yourself a favour and expiriment with the position of the mic, I don't like the position that DPA suggests, at least not on my guitar.

The dpa's are for recording only, so feedback is no issue.. How's the leakage (drums?!) when mounted on the surface? |

Acoustic mics and PA are a PAin in the ar*e! Never really enough GBF. I personally used to hate guitar bugs/pickups, however, in the last 10 or so years they have improved imeasurably and the compromises are relatively small these days. The best pickup's are the way to go IMHO, by the time you have played with position, compromised with handling noise, fiddled with eq and still had the potential GBF issues there may be little benefit. Certainly the other option is to mic and use the bug's for the PA, however I would still take a split from the bug and record that as a safety it might be better than you expect. Regards Roland |

Hi roland. Yeah, the dpa's will just be a little extra experiment, I'll take the di's too. |
