Question Need info about Audix broadcast mixing console

I Have this Audix broadcast console, ALB System
It's an (I guess) >10 year old mixer.
I am missing some things here, the most important thing is, I miss the external power supply.
Also I don't have any manuals, service manuals or any * manual.

Who can give me the info about the power supply, or where to order it. Or who can tell me an adress to drop my questions.
I e-mailed Audix about this, still waiting for an answer.
I am from holland, but I can't really find any dealer who can help me with this.

If someone can post the power supply specs (voltage and stuff) I can build one myself.

The picture:

(as you can see, I have somethings todo)

The last question, is it worth it, to get this mixing console back to work. (depending on some costs)...

A few months back I emailed Audix regarding a similar but older console built for a Beeb radio station - Audix got back to me pronto, so I can only suspect that they are having an extended holiday if they are taking time to get back to you. Be warned - the world of Audix broadcast consoles is extremely diverse, many were custom layouts and Audix will charge you for digging out the literature.

If you fail to get info from Audix and no-one here can help, then I would suggest noting the module numbers and trying the message board at the http://www.recordingconsoles.net/ site, there could be one or two around there that may help.

If your centre section is missing this could be because it contained trigger controls for the radio station - the centre section on the console I had contained many relays with all kind of diverse functions specific to radio.

Is it a discrete or ic-based design? The discrete Audix I've seen ran off a single rail +24v supply which would not be difficult to source if you needed another, it also had +5v for illumination etc, a psu such as this would be simple to adapt from many psus available secondhand.

Having said all that, I would be very surprised if Audix do not come up with the literature, telephone them if your emails go unresponded.

Ok, that is some usefull information.

I just did some research "inside" and discovered what you said! A single +24V input and ground was the only thing needed, so I got 2 psu's from my attick, both 12V, put them in (how do you say that in english) serial behind each other to get 24V=, and my Audix console was up and running!

Since every audio in and output is an centronics connector, I could not connect any audio source fast to see If anything is really working.
The pinout of the centronics is the next of few steps to figure out.

I wrote down the board numbers that I have in the console, maybe someone here can tell me jumper settings, pinouts, inputs and output pinouts and stuff.

Faders: D580 ISS B + D666 ISS A
6ch input Switch: D657 ISS A
6ch input Switch: D697 ISS A
guest output: D671 ISS B / D658 ISS B / 2x D657 ISS A
DJ output: D671 ISS B / D658 ISS B / D659 ISS A
TELCO: D667 ISS A
TELCO?: D662 ISS A
MIC/EQ: D672 ISS C
MASTER OUTPUT?: D544 ISS B (5x)

Anyone who knows Anything about these modules, let me know please!

audix alb

I know your maessage has been posted for some time. I have recently aquired an Audix ALB and have it up and running. If you still need info. I can help. For instance, on my desk the balanced inputs for each stereo channel are on the 'A' connector; pins 17/35 (left) and pins 18/36 (right). Unfortunately, the desk is just a collection of individual modules and many loops have to be connected between the connecors on the rear to see a signal through the desk. Getting the pre-fade chain to operate took me months to work out; even with the manual!

Try connecting a balanced stereo signal to CH01A, pins 17/35 (Left) and 18/36 (Right).
The main stereo output (TX balanced) is on CP05A, pins 2/20 (Left) and 5/23 (Right).

Good luck,
Dave.

Thanks for thinking along with me.
In the meantime I managed to get hold of the manual together with all schematics in great detail.
I've pulled out all centronics busses on the rear and built 2 XLR female busses for each channel inplace.
I was busy doing the internal wiring, I still need to do 2 faders or so then the mixer is ready to go. But I'm busy with lots of other things, so I don't have the time to make it to an end. Yet.

I tested all faders and stuff, everything is working. I just need some time to get there...

I don't blame you for putting XLRs on the channel inputs. Some of the holes were already drilled on mine for the optional mic inputs. I think it would be alot easier to have the 6 - way stereo selector inputs on a seperate connector also.
I am at the moment working out how to restore phantom power to one of the mic inputs. I think it has to be done on the stereo channel module. I would be grateful for any light you could shed on this.

Best Wishes,

Dave.
