Talking How to EQ voice effects for live performance?

Hi y'all,

I'm trying to figure out a way to put some effects on my voice for live performance. Specifically, to scoop out the EQ and make my voice sound more walkie-talkie or telephone-like.

I've seen Scott Weiland use a megaphone, and that may do the trick, but I also think I might look like I'm copying a guy who is, um, reasonably well known... Ha. So I don't want to do that unless I have to.

Anyway, is there an EQ or effects pedal anyone might recommend I try using my voice through?

THANKS!

I don't know if this will help you, but if you are trying to sound like a telephone, you won't find "scooping" an EQ helpful. You want to put a frown on a 31 band EQ, not a smilyface....I believe telephony only goes up to 4K. A megaphone is all midrange as well, and walkie talkies are in the same league. They deliberately amplify the frequencies where the speech "lives" so that they don't have to work harder to amplify frequencies that won't help people understand the words any better.

Don't worry about copying Scott Weiland because he certainly copied using a megaphone.
It's been done many times before him.

For telephone voice, just use a channel with a lot of midrange boosted.
You might limit it a bit, too.

Back in the 80's we used walkie talkies.. had one backstage mic'd (squelch adjusted to keep it quiet) and the other the lead vocalist used (aka me )

I think I saw The Fixx doing it once as well. Works well for that effect and also is a cool visual with the walkie talkie.

I'd use a 3 way cross-over.
