Question Do John Hardy preamps run hot?

Hey Slutz,

Just ordered a new John Hardy m-1 mic pre. and will be racking it for my mobile rig. I'm wondering how hot does this unit run?

I have all the other rack spaces filled and just have one left for the Hardy - will this be sufficient or do any of you leave an extra space above or below the unit for more ventilation etc..? I anticipate running it on an average of 6 hour recording sessions/day. The only other unit which may run hot and has a fan is my external HD in the same rack

Don't really want to buy another rack case if I don't have to.

thanks

nas

Hi nas

My Hardy M-2 runs pretty hot, but I don't have any spaces around it. It's never been a problem for my gear, but YMMV

Hey locosoundman - thanks for your reply.

Has anybody else had any experience running the Jonh Hardy pre's in a fully loaded rack for extended periods of time and dealt with it heating up too much ? or not enough ventilation...?

I just used the John Hardy M-1 in the 4 channel configuration a couple weeks ago. It ran as hot as any pre I've ever used. It was actually too hot to touch. It was mounted without any space above or below however.
