high hat favs?

Hey there!

I'm looking for input on high hat mics. It's been a while since I have bought new mics and the high hat is something I've wanted improvment on. I've tried various cheap condensors and kind of want to step up a bit. This would be sometimes used with no reinforcment but othertimes shared with FOH. What do you think?

and in general cardiod, hypercard?

thanks!

I usually put an AKG 480 on the hat. And then don't use it when I mix...

ha ha ha, I hear you on that one. Some groups/tunes can really use it though. It's not ALL the time that I like it enough in the overheads. I usually add a bit in the mix panned with the overhead sound. Sometimes it is crucial with jazz and fusion type stuff.

My favorite Hi-Hat mic is no Hi-Hat mic. I get plenty of Hi-Hats in my overhead mics.

If I had to place one -- large diaphram mics work best for me.
