I'm sorry my comment came out as mean.

I'm just saying, the ones that come with the mic are great, as long as you have a solid mic stand, latchlake or comparable stuff...

I've also used the antivibration stands but honestly, for what I do, which is 90% rock and roll, I don't really need it.

I'm using the AEA mounts. They probably take a little more time than the factory mounts to use, but I'm a little more confident in the adaptor that comes with the AEA mount.

Also, I use them in Blumlein often, and the stereo bar is really great for that. That said, the 4038's would be handier if they just had an XLR, and a standard mount.

Agreed! AEA makes the best stereo bars on the planet,
The SMT mount is designed to house two 4038's

i wouldn't recommend those elastic ones that AEA sells. they're kinda sloppy. the bands need to be wider apart. i bought three of them and they kinda suck.
abbey road studios custom made their own mounts for the 4038 which work great. same idea with the elastic but a better design for easier mobility and much much easier mic placement. i wish someone made a knockoff of that mount design.

Interesting...I had no idea about this and that´s the reason I post th question. The system can be better...

Thanks,
Pupo

i think the one i have is the 'factory' one, and it's terrible. the bolts can never go in perfectly straight if the mic is involved. mic sounds great though.

I use both the 4038-SA option (with AEA Stereo Bar) and the AEA suspensions and find that the threaded/bolt-on mounts tend to get more use. Sometimes I have a concern about mic stand thumps etc with kick drums and such but after nearly a decade of using these mic's in all possible situations where these mic's are applicable... it's never been an issue.

The elastic mounts do work well when required.

I also have the 4069 with tails style mount and that gets the least use.

Abbey Road 4038 mounts

it's the width at the top that gives the elastic greater stability than the threaded AEA version. the BBC use a very similar mount to Abbey Road's. nice design, works very well.

btw the mic'd up amp is in studio two.

So, when you put the mic away, do you leave the elasic on it? Did you make that, or where did you get the bar?

and how would that mount work for anything other than hanging straight up and down?

sorry, i guess i wasn't being clear. the pictures i'm posting were taken at abbey road studios this year. these are the mounts they use for all of their coles/stc 4038 microphones. they said they've used this custom mount design for as long as anyone has been there.

"and how would that mount work for anything other than hanging straight up and down?"

the coles mic swivels and turns so it can go in any direction instantly. and yes, they leave the elastic on their 4038's at abbey road studios as you can see below.
