Talking ISDN audio Codec-Alternatives? (IP maybe?)

I'm involved in a setup of a remote VO booth (from the artists home).
We've used Zephyr's in the past, but this setup will have a dedicated
T1 line to the remote. Is there an IP/network based alternative to
ISDN available? I know in the past there were issues with packet
based protocols and real time transmit/receive, have these been
resolved? Or is ISDN still the only method for this type of thing
(V/O's for broadcast-NOT live though)

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Tim,

VoIP (Voice over IP) has been around for while now but the quality is not up to broadcast standard, I can dig out what the various codecs are and what bandwidth they support so you can work out what kind of transport media you will require if you like.

Bus honestly speaking I would stick with your original solution for now.

Peace

APT makes the Tokyo which will operate over ethernet, but it must be on both ends - you can't go from T1 to ISDN.

Much of the studio world is still ISDN so compatability might be a problem.

This is going to be dedicated from our studio to the remote location only, so that may work. We'll keep our ISDN for other stuff.
