Hi folks I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else on GS, so thought I'd alert you guys. The BBC made an excellent two-part documentary on Quincy Jones' life and career. Covers early days with Dizzy, touring with his own big band, arranging for Sinatra, film scores, and obviously his solo albums and work with MJ. Contributions from Herbie Hancock, Bruce Swedien, Steve Lukather, lots of others. Both hour-long parts are being shown again, back-to-back, this coming Thursday 26th June, on BBC Four (thats TV, not Radio 4). UK only I guess... maybe it'll show up on BBC America at some point? Easily the best documentary on Quincy that I've ever seen. Really inspiring. |
