Thread Starter | wired or wireless lav?
Doing a job this weekend recording 8 separate tracks for a poker tournament that will be broadcast. The tournament could last up to 4 hours. I need to decide between wired or wireless lavs. Wireless would be more convenient but I don't have any experience using them and I'm afraid of running into battery or frequency issues. Anyone have experience with this kind of thing? any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Wireless would have you changing batteries every couple of hours. If you have the ability to do that without interfering with the production, go for it. Run extensive frequency tests ahead of time of course. Wired... doesn't make a lot of sense, the players are going to get up, might forget being wired, sort of sounds like a pain. Since they are all sitting at a table, you know exactly where they are going to be. I'd either suspend some mics from above or put several boundary layer mics on the table itself rather than trying to wire up humans. |

Eight wireless systems for a 4 hour gig is a complete non issue. Most newer transmitters will easily last more than 4 hours. As well 8 transceivers working in proximity for pro systems is not even pushing the bounds of frequency limits. Talk to a supplier you trust about getting the proper rig, and you'll be good to go. |
