Question acoustic harpsichord in loud pa situation

hi all,

Im recording a concert next week that, apart from drums, vocals and lots of electronic instruments, incorporates an acoustic harpsichord.(large venue).
I spoke to the foh engineer, who has used contact mics and 2 dpa 4021's on a boom,
but he was considering 2 4061s with a closed lid, well experiment next week..
anyone experience with this particular situation?

thanks!

huub

Ill make a gig report for this gig next week.. ill be running pyramix, reaper and plenty of tascam da88's for a fully redundant 74 channel recording

I noticed no one has replied to this thread...

How did everything workout?

What did you decide to use on the instrument?

The gig is this wednesday, I'm recording a björk dvd in paris, france, very much looking forward to that!
The FOH guy told me that the harpsichord is a nightmare, as the soundboard resonates with the podium sound.. We'll see..

this will sound silly at first.... but let it noodle about. sm 57 on a tape bridge. I have a love/hate relationship with micing stringd indtruments in wood boxes. The tape will help dampin some of that buzzy ressionance and the 57 just has great rejection, ya know, to deal with all the other stuff onstage. or i could be way off for your situation

Gefell m 940 would be perfect for the situation. Large, controlled, clean and hypercardioid.

Just back from the gig.. All went well
The harpsichord had 3 contact mics, 2 dpa cardiods and 2 dpa omni's..
In one solo vocal/harpsichord number the cardioids were really nice,
but with loud band only the contact mics were useable at all..

yes, but the hammer part was exposed, if i'm making sense.. so the big lid was down, and a smaller lid was open i guess.. not quite sure, only saw it on my monitor, did not see it on stage..
