Question DAV BG-1 and Korg MR-1000: Do they like each other?

Hi everyone,

I have a Korg MR-1000 recorder which I use for classical piano ranging all the way from Handel to Brahms, Ravel and Schoenberg. Among the mics I use is a modded phantom-powered ribbon for M/S recording, with its concomitant warmth.

I begin to be tempted by the Broadhurst Gardens DAV BG-1 mic preamp. Much as the Millennia and Grace preamps are "standard" choices, they are quite pricier and their added value over the DAV has been fiercely debated in this and other forums.

My question: Since the Korg is slightly on the "warm" ("analog") side, should I worry that adding one more "warm" link in my chain, such as the DAV preamp, may begin to color the sound unacceptably much for the kind of music I record? Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to test any of the preamps, so I will have to rely on the collective wisdom.

Any experiences with pairing the Korg recorder with the DAV preamp?

Thank you.

Tons. You won't regret getting the DAV.

Feel free to listen to the streaming sample on my homepage, as well as examples 2 and 6 on my Listen page. All those samples used a pr of Schoeps omnis, BG1 and MR1000 recording DSD 5.6. [Of course they are MP3s, but that's the best I can do!]

Thank you very much for the response and the clips. Very fine work indeed. As I expected, the MR1000-DAV combo yields sound that is slightly on the "dark" side, even with Schoeps mics, but in your case at least it does so with very pleasing results.
