Question Cheap raise? ie Trying to get a rise out of you

Hey Remote Possibilities Forum,

does anyone have low cost suggestions on how I can raise
one of my sdc up higher than the other for hassle-free ORTF and XY positioning.

Schoeps has their SG20 which are pricey and I've seen the little silver threaded spacer jobbies before, but I'm not sure where to look.

Thanks for any help folks,

Lonic Sush. hic. I mean Shonic Lush

I've thought about this before. I found at Home Depot a coupler and a short screw that was the same thread size as a mic clip, but I couldn't find a saw that I could cut the head off of the screw with. If I could cut it nice and cleanly it would raise the mic just about 2 inches, perfect for most uses.

Nobody in my small town though has a fine-tipped jeweler's saw. If you can find one maybe that'll work for ya. Then maybe you can do a couple for me

Jerry Bruck at Posthorn has a nice spacer for sale, brass threads with a hard plastic spacer body. It is the perfect amount of additional space to overlap two Schoeps microphones.

On Stage Makes a quick release adapter that will work for that. B&H has them for $5.95. Part is On-StageQK10B Quick Release Adapter.

I was wondering if those would work as simple as that! Thanks, I think I'll be ordering a half-dozen of these.

If you live in a 5/8" world, get a 5/8" female to 3/8" male adaptor, and screw a 3/8" female to 5/8" adaptor on the end of it. Use threadlock to stop them coming apart.

For 3/8" people like me (e.g. Europe), just screw the 3/8" to 5/8" adaptor into the bottom of the 5/8" to 3/8" adaptor.

Wow, that'd be a lot easier to describe with pictures wouldn't it?

Anyway, this is what I do, and it works great.

I mean the thread adaptors specifically meant for microphones. Commonly available at your local microphone/audio bits and pieces supplier.

Cool

If you are in Europe (including the UK) the best idea is to use two microphone thread adaptors.

Use the standard 3/8" to 5/8" adaptor that is in most mic. clamps and screw this inside a 5/8" to 3/8" adaptor.

This will give you a 3/8" to 3/8" adaptor that will raise the mic. about 1".

(Pictures not to scale - but should give you the idea).

Hi Steve, It's Walter in Seattle.
I used to post around these parts under another guise, but
my paranoia has prompted me to switch
personalities to a sonically intoxicated
crooner/recording prestidigitator.

just looking for one of these bad boys to raise one of my
Schoeps higher than the other to try some nifty
stereo capture scenarios.
