Question A better windscreen for the NT4?

Better than the little foam one that ships with it. That thing doesn't do much in the wind.

I bought a Rykote rig for the field. Cost almost as much as the mic, but it works great.

I got a pair of lavalier sized rycotes for my Avenson STO-2's. They help about 2x's as much as the WindTech 2114's. When used in combination with the WindTechs. But not enough to kill all wind noise. Good in < 10mph conditions. And greatly reduced at faster wind speeds. But not gone. I've enhanced my rycotes by taking some velcro cord organizers and building up a semi-solid wall to the rear of the mics. Perhaps making my Omni's a little more cardiod too. Or not. Kind of had to as the Lavalier Rycotes aren't big enough to fully wrap the 2114's. Not that I can complain much, they were only $50 for a pair of the lavalier size. As opposed to $750 for the larger sizes.

Probably not applicable to the NT4. But just to give an idea of the lavalier sized rycotes. The stretchy part opens up to the size of a quarter broadside. But there's just not much inner depth to cover anything substantial. the velcro strips are only covering about 5% of the rycote. Every little bit helps.

B&H has it here
It is not clear to me if they are sold in pairs (as the NT4s are) or if this is just for one of them.

It would be a Basket WIndshield Kit 4 with ConnBox 4.

But Rycote also do a Mini Windjammer for the Røde NT 4 - which is much cheaper. Not as effective, but gives much better wind protection than the foam windshield alone.

The NT 4 is a stereo mic. not sold in pairs.

I think the Rycote Mini Windjammer will go over both capsules together - so you only need one.

My bad. I meant one for each capsule.

Maybe they are like two singles sewn together somehow? I wouldn't think that it is one that slips over the whole mic with that curved bar in the way.

I checked the Rycote website but could not find a picture. I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like, if anyone has one.

I got a Rycote furry, i think the one from B&H shown above, and it covers both capsules. It fits right over the foam that Rode gives you with the mic. Great for run-n-gun stereo field pickup outdoors or in large spaces.

IMO this is one of the few really good uses for this mic. The wind treatments tame its hyped HF response just enough and it still has incredible reach for detail in the ambient space.
