Question Elbo room in Chicago

Has anyone recorded at the elbo room in chicago? I'll be recording a friends band there tomorrow and was looking for some suggestions. I'll be using an mbox2 and two KM184s with a stereo bar.

Or, if anyone has any general tips on recording in a small, loud club, that would be appreciated too.

Room is small and it is junk. Any set-up you have will work because there is no focus to the room and no good acoustic. Two ways to do it as I see it. Mic everything close and mix later or record with just a stereo pair.

I would not go to too much trouble in this dive. The result will be junk in any case no matter what you do.

Sorry, but that's the real report on this toilet.

I've been there before, just never recorded anything. Its just for a friends band, nothing serious. I suppose I'll just throw the pair up and see what happens.

Criticism all true...

...but I sure had some good times there when I lived in Chicago!

:D

I play bass in a band and we played there a coupla months ago- and the accusations are true. But I would say plush probably has the best idea- just close mic the stuff... kinda hard to do with an mbox.

I don't know how extravagant you want to get, but you could sum a few channels through a tiny board or something...

Fun place to play though!

Good Luck

Well its all done and it actually came out pretty well. Just a bit of post processing and its pretty clear. Certainly helped the band was very good and the soundman knew what he was doing.

Glad it worked out. I probably came off a little harsh in my first comment. Not the best sounding room in town, but certainly a fun place to play. I'm sitting in on a few songs with a band at the Elbow room this weekend.
