Talking "Old Joe Clark," youth chorus on an Edirol R-09

My experiments on the effects of CD duplication with Edirol R-09's has led me to realize several things: the atoms of the R-09 are excellent at doing a certain thing-- recording whatever is about 6 or 9 feet away with sure-footed, sizzling realism. I did this duplication of a youth chorus concert that was bootlegged with one, and whenever something veered close enough, it was perfectly vivid. The whole group, back obviously much farther, gets you this "old record" aesthetic that has its own charm, (although it's a little hashy and indistinct.)

There's something primal in this sound, you have to believe that children have been singing like this for ageless generations....

Is that the onboard mics of the Edirol R-09? As I think of all of the money I could still have if I'd stayed low end and just gotten the Edirol. Not bad considering. You can definitely hear the tile-ish flooring.

It is indeed! I know... fabulous little machine they got there, and whatever sort of onboard compression/limiting they've built in ain't too shabby, either. They sent me one track that came off of some kind of handheld camera, and the peaks on that were Warble Wobble City!
