Talking Microphone cases

Does anyone know where I could get a small mic storage box made for my two sennheiser mkh 40's ?

As is, each one comes in its own box and its cumbersome to carry two boxes around, Im wondering if there is a place that makes foam filled mic cases for specific mic combos...

Thanks

Cool

I got special flight cases made for my mics.

But why not take an MKH 40 box to a case company and get them to re-foam it, cut for two mics.

Should be quite easy.

replacement mic cases

I realize this doesn't really answer your question, but you could try the Container Store: The Container Store > Shop Collections > Hobby > Utility Cases > Commercial-Grade Plastic Cases

These same cases are available elsewhere as well.

For a custom job, you could try these guys.

I use this for my MKH40 mics...

Pelican™*Products*1060*Micro Case

Put foam in it and the mics sit wedged between the top and the foam. Works great and has protected the mics well.

Gunnies know; and Master Gunnies are God. But I am cheap. I just wrap my Schoeps in unsealed ZipLocs, roll them in towels and store them in a cheap plastic container. Gunny is right though. I should break down and get the right box. The Gunny is always right.

That's a better treatment than they get from some german broadcasters.
But didn't they come in a wooden box with blue foam?

Photographers' utility cases are nice too. Some have pre-cut foam, so you just take out as many foam cubes as you need.

They sell fitted pick and pluck foam... All of my cases use that and has worked well for me. Like any foarm, you should be careful that it doesn't shed, but I have yet to have an issue in several years of use with them.

On the subject,

Does anyone else make the Neumann-style silver suitcases like my 147 comes in? Or, for that matter, who makes Neumann's suitcases? Neumann themselves?

I'd love to have one for my stereo mic and its accessories.

Claus.

I also use the pelican 1060, with their pick and pluck foam.

I had to add thin pieces of foam above and below the pick and pluck piece, to have some foam holding the mics away form the top and bottom of the case.

A good way of cutting foam is an electric turkey carving knife.

Lowes tool case

This is my new personal favorite. Especially considering the price of $24.99! It comes with both pluck foam and dividers. It's about the size as the case that came with my U87. The organizer shown with the top pops out. Obviously, not the best solution for a pair of SDC's. But then again, once you consider clips, shockmounts, cables, etc, maybe it's not so bad for that either. I want the pelican case mentioned in this thread for my KM184's and my AT SDC's.

Classic Tool Case

The extra foam I use on top and bottom, I cut from some pieces that I had lying around. I think it was packaging for a hard drive. It was just standard smushy foam similar to that pick and pluck stuff.

We use plastic pistol cases.
We also use a variety of plastic cases that look very similar to the recommondation Karl Jackson gave us.
We have various sizes which come with foam inserts that hug the mics nicely.
Some case only hold a pair or more while other cases hold eight.
The case then go into a roadcase for travel to/from the location.

SD mic cases

I recently Switched over from the pelican 1060 to a (otter box) cigar caddy 3140 to carry my 451's. The 3140 cost me $20 shipped.

I only do 4track remote stuff so I can fit my whole rig in a Low Pro nova 5. This makes much more room in the bag.

Here are a few pics for comparison.

Have a great weekend guys and gals.

To keep this forum at the proper size and look I turn your URL JPGs into attachments so everything looks the same. Since you can only upload a maximum of three files, please find Nick's 4th file.

Here's the 4th JPG of his pair of C451s...

Nick,

No worries, no worries at all...

Since I never created a guideline thread (I felt we are so awesome as a group we really never needed one) I totally understand.

Folks usually pick up on the vibe and run with it.

I love this forum!
