Question looking for a great 8 mic preamp

im looking for a good preamp with 8 mic inputs. if you know a good 4 mic preamp im interested too.

im using km184, brauner phantom , and cheaper mics.

im thinking to buy Daking Products but still xpensive to buy

has anyone xperience with other preamps. especially to record on location.

any feedback is mostly welcome

tnx Peter

Hi Peter:

Check out the Seventh Circle Audio (SCA) preamps. They really rock out. You can start with one, two, or four preamps and add more as you have the money. I've got two J-99 (John Hardy copies) and 1 N-72 (Neve copy) and 1 A-12 (API copy) on the way (i.e., are being built for me right now).

It would be worth your time to check them out at Seventh Circle Audio - Main Nav

You might also find SCA preamps for sale on gearslutz occassionally - so you might catch a deal. That's how I jumped in.

If you can stretch a little, you could find a used Millennia 8 channel unit of under $3000.

Otherwise maybe (2) 4 channel Sytek pre's or (4) RNP's.

Talking

or my DAV BG-8 which I would let go for $2,000 or a pair of Royer R-121s.

Within your budget the Audient ASP008s are a really good choice. They are clean and reliable preamps with hipass filters and variable impedance included.

For the price you mention you could even get them with the AD-card fitted and still take your girl to a very nice evening out at the end of the day.

I see you noticed the "great" part, but you may not have read down far enough to find the $2k ceiling. If you run across a UA 8110 for 2k, I'll give you 3.

have a sytek and love it, but for my money i prefer the stock (as opposed to the burbrown) op amps for "clean"

less money any way.

Millennia HV-3D with sound sample

Millennia HV-3D. Enclosed recording done live in a living room through the Millennia into a Firepod into an Apple laptop using Cubase. Mics are two Kel HM-1s. We only used two of the channels, but you get the picture.

Not a popular choice round here but the Digi PRE actually sounds nice. Very clean. Impedance switches. Inserts. Filters.

Can be had for cheap!

It DOES make a slight click when the gain is changed.
