Thread Starter | Crazy contraptions for multiple mics on one stand
So, who else puts together ridiculous conglomerations of microphone clips and accessories to make a stereo mic mount or other things?
Here is a couple of pics of an ORTF rig on top of an M-S array that I will be using this weekend. I will blend the two to taste. The ORTF mics are Oktava 012s and the M-S mics are an Earthworks QTC-1 and an Oktava ML-52 (rebranded by Electro-Harmonix and modded my myself to make it a flat-top).

WOW!!
What about a Latch Lake Extra Boom??
Its not as hectic as that above torture device, but I'll get 8 mic's on one stand in about 3 1/2 minutes with a bunch of extra booms and the Mic King.
Ah....What do I know?

I have a single cymbal stand with not one but two modified SE reflexion filters, a blumlein bar holding a pair of fatheads, two shockmounted LDCs, an XY or ORTF pair of SDCs, and a headphone hanger.
For starters.
Then there's my songwriting station which has on one regular mic stand a Tascam DR-1, a Peterson Stroboflip, a Korg Pandora, an Audix i5, a pair of ATH-M50's also on a hanger, and a shelf (yes, mic-stand-mountable shelf) for odds and ends and a beverage.

Nice ones guys! d_fu, your second rig is exactly the same as mine, cool. I'm glad I'm not using such large mics for the M-S though (I'm worried already about weight issues for the stand).
Yes joel I have done that trick several times, very helpful. Actually I have three drum mic clips that have been invaluable for clipping extra mics to stands or whatever.

Do I get the prize for most mics on one stand (13)? This was for a surround comparison. Trinnov and OCT rig

Yeah that's pretty awesome. I'm dreading the day when someone wants surround recording. I've never done it, I'd have to invest in those ridiculously-priced bars. Or build my own, yes.

Attachment is photo of 2 piece mic holder, 1 piece is a stereo bar, the other piece holds main L/R, Cent and LFE(Omni) mics. I had these machined out of aluminum at a local machine shop. The KM184's on the stereo bar are facing forward a little, as I was experimenting and this particular concert didn't have any rear sound sources.
FWIW,

Old thread but....
Anyone know where you get one of these adapters for placing two different mic's on one source without an extra stand?

That silver-grey clamp you're looking at there is actually a Tama drum accessory clamp.
It clamps onto any round pipe and takes a couple of different diameters of Tama's drum hardware - I assume they make an arm with a mic screw thread on it? (It's been a while since I've had my hands on Tama's stuff)
Pearl (the drum company, not mic company) also used to make similar clamps, but with an adjustable pipe clamp on both ends.

Yeah, for some reason the drum and photographic manufacturers tend to make clamps that are far more grippy, solid and versatile than those from any of the audio accessory manufacturers.
You can almost swing your entire body weight off a properly secured Manfrotto super clamp...
