Why is it that an undergrad degree in audio is required? Most people here seem to think a degree in audio (ex: Full Sail) is worthless.

I ask because I'm about to graduate with a music education and music composition degree and Indiana is one of the schools I'm thinking about going to for a master's in composition. This is the kind of internship I would want.

I don't have a degree but I've been recording for years and have my own business. Is that not enough?

Well obviously I don't think a degree is worthless, and I don't think that Full Sail and IU are an appropriate comparison. But as with most job descriptions, the requirements are somewhat variable depending on the applicant's background. Many audio programs require an internship so I envision this as a good position for an audio student who has an interest in theater sound and wants to get some real-world experience.

You are welcome to apply, the position will be about 50% sound design/live sound and 50% recording. It is full time so you would not be able to go to school at the same time.

At first glance I thought this looked like a great opportunity for someone with compensation/responsibilities perhaps structured similar to a graduate student's (e.g., 50% effort for the monthly stipend). Full-time. Geez. Still better than the coffee slinging, toilet cleaning studio internships people often do, but whomever takes it will certainly not get rich. My grad school stipend was more than that almost a decade ago.....

At least Bloomington should offer fairly cheap living.

Where did you go? That's about what mine was. You could live off that in a town like Bloomington.
If I were a few years younger, I'd probably be very interested (despite the fact that my degrees are in composition and musicology, not audio recording.)

I guess I should have qualified that. It is considered a full time position, some weeks there may only be 20 hours of work but others, such as opera tech week, will be in excess of 50. There are plenty of opportunities to supplement income - Bloomington has an incredibly active music and arts scene. I expect an enterprising person could double their income with freelance work.
