I was watching the dvd and i noticed that when the audience sings along to another one bites the dust, they are horribly behind. could this have anything to do with the delay in a signal or what? anyone?

Remember, the audience is singing alone with the amplified sound system that is delayed (by the time it get to their ears) from the direct signal that the remote recording unit is getting from that stage. Nowadays, you could time align the audience track quite easily. In the old days we recorded the audience tracks on a separate recorder and off set the SMPTE TC to match the direct tracks that were recorded on another machine. When DTRS came around we used the internal track delay to accomplish the same task. In the world of DAW you can just line up the wave forms and you're good to go.

Funnily enough I was watching that DVD on Saturday night. Couldn't help noticing that some of the guitar bits were redone. There are a couple of bits that aren't right from a visual \ audio point of view. I wonder how much was redone ? Great live DVD none the less. |

I remember a Taj Mahal solo gig I heard on the radio some years ago, a live transmission from a club here in town: At some point the audience started clapping their hand on '1' and '3' and Taj just stopped and said soemthign to tehe effect of 'That's white music, we're talking black music here and that is '2' and '4'...now do that!' He was teaching them the backbeat and it worked eventually!
