Quality recording from FOH

Can a good Live recording be made from the FOH board?

Lets say I have a Tascam MX2424 Hard disk recorder what would be the best way to get a Usable sound without an Isolation room or another board to listen back on? Just the Tascam and whatever is at the gig?

rollz

Peace

Prefader (and EQ!) direct outs from an excellent console. Use of subgroups if Mr. Soundman is using VCAs. A nice, long soundcheck.

I do it often enough. Would you care to hear snippets?

Snippets would be cool Is there a link I can go to?

Have any of your recordings this way been released?

Also what is the best way to route the signal, with the Direct Outs of the board? Or through Bussing, I believe it might be an 8 buss board!

I have done a bunch of low budget records where I was running FOH as well and just took the direct snake lines into my outboard pres , through my DA 78's and then into the line level insert return of the console... always making sure of two things:

1. the console's insert returns have enough headroom!

2. the DA's are in Input Only.. very important...

Works great, and boy, is it nice to do a FOH mix with Manley neve and misc pres instead of stock mid level live console pres..

I know for a fact Paul McCartney records every show on Tascam MX2424's from FOH (Midas XL4 and Heritage 3000).I think some of the shows made it on to his live DVD.
