Talking Stand-alone recorder vs. FW interface (or Tascam vs. Apogee)

Which one is better with regard to sound quality alone: The Tascam HD-P2 standalone recorder or a 2-channel interface such as the Apogee Duet or Minime?

Again, I am interested in a comparison of the pre-amps and A/D converters (sound quality) alone, not any other features.

I will be recording acoustic/classical music. Fidelity is a TOP priority.

Thanks.

Mmmmmmmmmm.....

I'm not sure I like either. I record classical.

I don't like computers for the master recording - too risky.

My choice was the Fostex FR-2 with an external Audio Design DMA2 mic. pre. with 24/96 A/D. But I plan to upgrade to the new Nagra VI when it arrives next month (hopefully).

For the computer I went for the RME as the Apogee is not as neutral as I would like (but I dream of the Prism Orpheus).

Hey John,

So are you currently limiting yourself to 2 tracks?
