Question TIME ALIGN YOUR MAINS TO THE BACKLINE?

This theory has been on my mind for sometime now...it's standard practice to time align your mains to your subs; but what about delaying all of your FOH to be aligned with your drums and guitar/bass amps? There's the obvious variation of backline depth, but in theory wouldn't an average depth delay "tighten" up the overall mix? Just wondering if anyone has an experience with experimenting with this.

i do that all the time. i have a d show that we use at my church, and i not only delay the mains, but also individual channels if need be. it is great to have your sound come at you in a unified front rather that just the mains, if that makes sense. it especially makes sense in any venue where the stage is close enough to the audience to "interfere" with what your doing, like ours.

try it out. just calculate, and then nudge back and forth till it makes sense.

Very standard practice with some PA companies, as well as shows that have a 'theatre' approach like Celtic Woman, as well as most if not ALL Broadway shows- everything time aligned to stage.

Delaying Mains

Several "art music" groups that I know of delay the mains so that the audience gets the acoustic first.
