What do you want to know, I've owned both.

well, basically, why buy 600's over 400's? that's really my question? why spend the extra cash? i'm looking for an end user to double as a sales person here.

Well, I can be that guy.

I own them and I sell them, but I try not to be a pimp here.

Without knowing what you're going to be doing with them its kinda hard to say, but I'll give you the quick and dirty:

If you can afford it, buy the PSM600. Especially if you're looking at the wireless version. The audio section in the pack is much better sounding in the 600, the 400 is more of the entry level / weekend warrior musician product. The 400 is fragile, has a plastic body, and the RF section is not as robust.

If you're going to be using these in a lot of different locations, I highly recomend spending the money on the PSM700. It's frequency agile so you can change frequencies if you run into a problem. The 600 and 400 are not agile, you get a choice of two freq's.

Keep in mind, earpieces play a big role in the sound quality...

I'm not sure if this will help...

I've never worked with the 400 in the field so I cannot comment on it, but when it comes to the Shure variety of IEMs I've only seen the 600 and 700 series units on location.

those do help. a band has asked me to engineer for them on an ongoing basis and they've asked advice on buying several pieces of gear. There will be touring involved and they need 4 channels of wl iem's. the 600's do look more durable even in pics, so i was leaning that way before.

In that case, I would definitely advise on trying to get the PSM700's over the PSM600's. With Digital Television incresing and the "White Spaces" shrinking, the RF spectrum is getting more and more crowded, and I wouldn't advise you on getting a system that is not frequency agile.

If you do need hard wire drops for the drummer, keyboardist and what not, the PSM600 is great for that.
