Question Logic 8 for Live or Remote Recording

Hey there slutzs.

Anyone used Logic 8 for live/remote recording sesssions? I need 24 simultaneous INs. I can only get 18 simultaneous INs with my 003R system (Digimax via lightpipe & Voicemaster via SPDIF).

I use a Macbook Pro for my live/remote sessions.

also, is Logic8 stable for live recording (I haven't tried it)? But my PTLE 7 system can handle 18 INs without any hiccup.

Looking forward to replies.

Gerry

I use Boom Recorder or Metacorder for this. There are no plugins,VI's, mixer etc so there is very little strain on the computer and it's basically used as a tape machine and then files are imported. Works really well

metric halo 2882+dsp will do it.

recorder ONLY. no stress on the system... good solid interface and conversion, and it will play very nicely with logic.

I use Logic 8, to record live shows every week.
I record 32 inputs at 24 bits / 48Khz without a single hickup.
I use a Macbook Pro, a M-Audio Lightbridge, and a separated FW HD.

Here's my setup.
I work with a Yamaha M7CL-48 Digital console fitted with 2 ADAT cards (16 i/o each)
So I send each tracks with the direct out (pre-everything) to the ADAT cards, the Lightbridge is connected those ADAT cards.

I also added a SIIG express to FW400 card to handle the hard drive, so the HD and the interface uses their own FW port.

Everything is clean and trouble free. the only thing you have to do is make sure you open the m-audio control panel every time before you open Logic to get the clock source to ADAT.

Good luck.

Cool

thanks Danmixman, that M-Audio Profire Lightbridge surely is worth investigating. If I go that way I can consider 8-channel PREs with lightpipe in lieu of the high-end A/Ds I have mentioned earlier.

thanks and more power!

The Lightbridge has been a great for me. I heard alot of horror stories about this unit, but if you use it with Logic on a dedicated FW port, you'll love it.

Sure you can use the Lightbridge with any 8 channels mic pres that has ADAT outputs.
There's a lot of models out there, starting from 700$ to 5000$ and more.

Look at the Focusrite stuff, they 2 or 3 models of pres with ADAT outs.

Dan.

Good to know that the M-AUDIO Lightbridge has been very stable for you. I checked it out and my only concern is that it doesn't have word clock input. This is a deal breaker as I have really bad experience on sessions where digital devices are not synced to a master clock. my guess it's the varying conditions of electric current in my country.

Regarding 8-channel PRE's with lightpipe, I have come to trust PRESONUS stuff. As I searched more on "lightbridge" I discovered Presonus has a new product Firestudio Lightpipe which has 32 /IO of ADAT but with word clock IO, however it's a new product not shipping yet. :(

The Lightbridge DOES have a Word Clock input and output (mine is clocked to a Rosendahl Nanosync), as well as midi i/o, SPDIF i/o, and 2 channels analog output.

I hope it will help you.

oh yes, indeed it has word clock input. I did not see a BNC connector anywhere but after close readings, they provide a breakout cable with BNC connector.

thanks again DAN
