Hey Peter, hadn't visited the show in awhile. Saw the new episodes this morning. What a great show this is! Saw Grace Potter before I read your post...emailed the link to my son and told him to check out "Things I Never Needed". What a great singer and a fantastic tune!

I'm always astounded at the sound quality you get and appreciate your willingness to share tech info from your earliest GS post on the gear setup to your more recent one on the Waves C6 you use for monitors. I get exactly what you mean about getting it to push when Daryl pushes. Brilliant idea!

I'm pretty sure I stumbled into a video somewhere in which you showed folks around the control room you use for LFDH etc... If you ever had a chance to do a video that elaborated on the tech setup that would be a must see for me.

Thanks for all your work. LFDH is one of the best shows out there as far as I'm concerned.

Here's a short video of the Waves C6 plugin with the settings i came up with for Daryl's monitors. You can see the C6 pushing a bit at the frequencies i set when Daryl starts to sing a bit harder, this feels and sounds natural the way that i have it set here.
I did have to play around to find the sweet spot for our room & monitor setup, but it really makes a big difference for us.
Try it out and post back any of your findings and any tips that work for your setups. ~ Peter

She had the cookies down to a science too!
I'm sure you all know how hard it is to concentrate on work when you smell chocolate chip cookies baking (and your'e hungry too)
I was really surprised at the cookies with bourbon in them.... really good! Kinda like Rum cake, either you love it or hate it.

Fantastic show! All the songs are great, 'Crash and Burn' is most excellent. My favorite is 'Get Out Of The Way'. Love it!

Peter the recording is perfect, really top notch.

Hey All,
For anyone new to this thread, i have posted along the way all of the things i have changed since the start of the show.

Since we started with our show 11/15/07 (first episode) we are at almost 50 shows and now on TV nationwide...... but we have still kept the same promise... always free and 24/7 on the internet with access to all the shows in full with no commercials and no change in format of the show to conform to any TV guidelines (although the TV broadcasts are edited to fit the TV format).

ill try to update with the current setup soon, hope this info helps people on their own journey to their own show.
Anyone who is serious about doing a top notch music show and needs some help, feel free to contact me, i know how difficult it can be...... we need as much great music as we can get and i know that there is so much talent out there ready to burst into the public's eyes (and ears).

Thanks for all the support! ~ Peter

Thank you

Peter, thank you for all of this fascinating information you are sharing with us!

I have just found the show on Canadian tv this month and have seen maybe a third of the shows that were produced so far. Great shows, fast moving, interesting musical guests, great musicians, instruments, and arrangements.

Cheers to you and the whole crew!

Hey All,
This month's artist "Allen Stone" is a must see show.........
I can't tell you how much i enjoyed working with him and recording/mixing this show. I'll be buying everything this kid ever does from now on.
You can also dig around YouTube and see some other live stuff he has done with other famous artists that are also digging his thing.

1. Amazing Songs
2. Amazing Singing
3. Way cool and unique new young artist
4. The real deal, he was born with it.
5. Something fresh for the real R&B/Soul music heads
6. A super cool guy that i'd bet is gonna be around for a long time.

Also stay tuned for a way cool new roster of upcoming artists on the show, i'm super excited for whats coming up this year and im sure you all will be too........... lots of surprises!

I've also been beta testing a new line of mics for Miktek and am absolutely blown away by their entire series of mics.
There has not been one mic in their entire offering that has not raised the bar of microphones for me. I urge you guys to try them out , it has changed me and you will be seeing & hearing lots more of their stuff on the show and in all of my recordings. There has not been any mic i have tried from them that is not shockingly good and has hands down won many shootouts i have done with them.

The show viewership on the web & tv has been growing & growing and we couldn't do it without all your support.
We've fought hard to keep the show free on the web and commercial free (except tv) and we pay extra to make sure the audio/video quality and streaming speed is top notch.
Keep spreading the word!

All The Best,
Peter

Peter,

I'm not a musician or an engineer, just a life-long music lover. I enjoy looking for live performances on YouTube and recently found a lot of clips from the "Old Grey Whistle Test". I was immediately struck by the quality of those performances and continue to go back to them. In fact, I grew up listing to Hall & Oates but I didn't truly appreciate Daryl's talent until I saw him perform on "Old Grey Whistle Test". The man has soul!!

I was somewhat aware that Daryl Hall had a webcast program from something I read a few years ago but I didn't see any of the episodes until it was broadcast on TV. Like the "Old Grey Whistle Test", it blew me away with the quality of the recordings. I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for all that you've accomplished with the sound on this show. I just keep going back to those episodes and cranking up the volume on my stereo!

I also love what Daryl and the band are doing with this and I've discovered some amazing new artists from the show (Diane Birch and Mayer Hawthorne come to mind) and been incredibly impressed with some familiar folks (Pat Monagham blew me away with "Wait For Me").

Keep up the great work and know that it's also very much appreciated by everyday people without training in music or recording techniques.

"Live from Daryl's House" is one of the best things in the music world to come along in a long time!

Hi Peter,

I've been watching LFDH since the beginning and have loved every minute of it, recently though I have been unable to watch the shows as the Flash player stops playing every 30 seconds or so. Had no problems whilst T-Bone was with us!!!!!

Obviously something has changed on the site that prevents me from watching, as I can watch all other Flash player based videos on other sites such as youtube etc without a problem.

I'm using a Mac with OSX Lion, latest version of Safari, a large amount of memory, latest version of Flash Player and lots of bandwith.

I found this thread whilst searching for a solution, I've tried the usual things like turning off hardware acceleration, other browser, but nothing works, and I really miss the shows.

Thought I would ask you as a last resort.

Glad you mentioned it.
PM me and let me know which episodes are not working, then I can trace down the possible issue. We had changed the latest dozen of more shows to a iPad friendly encoder, so It should be using QuickTime if it is newer episodes. Older ones might still be flash, but will eventually all be QuickTime.

Thanks for the heads up!

And the sound quality is fantastic. In fact I bought Daryl's new CD and was a bit disappointed as I find that the songs actually sound a lot better with Peter's mix on line on LFDH.

Great work Peter!

Great work Peter!
Thanks!
I would have loved to have mixed it but unfortunately i had to have back surgery last year and needed some downtime to heal.
Good thing is that i get to do a new album every month with Daryl & a new artist....... and i discover new artists and become a fan just as much as you all do too...... its a fantastic way to discover new music and artists.

We start doing live shows on the road with Sharon Jones & Allen Stone starting in april in the northeast and will bring the show all across the USA with different artists as time permits...... Hope to see some of you there!

The latest Live From Daryl's House tour schedule:
April 11 - Montclair, NJ (Wellmont Theatre)
April 12 - Boston, MA (House of Blues)
April 14 - Atlantic City, NJ (Borgata Music Box Theater)
April 16 - Chicago, IL (Auditorium Theatre)
April 18 - Minneapolis, MN (Orpheum Theatre)
April 20 - Washington, DC (Warner Theatre)
April 21 – NYC (Beacon Theatre)
June 28 - Rochester, NY (Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre)

Hey All,
In a follow up to the problem here i wanted to update you to my findings so far.

So far what i have found is that the problem might be a issue with Safari and the latest update they posted.
Seems that the latest update broke much of the compatibility with the Flash Player and the issue goes all the way to even YouTube not working correctly for many mac users (myself included).
Its a fine line to walk between compatibility & security and of course all of us want to install all the latest security updates, but as seen here sometimes it has a price.
Apple is aware of the issue and I'm not sure how fast they will post a fix.
I'm looking for a fix and will post it as soon as i have a solid one.
We are starting the next round of show recordings on monday and all i can say is " It's gonna be a KILLER next few months!!!!!" We finally scheduled an artist that was supposed to be on the show 1 1/2 years ago but we had a schedule conflict at the time so they had to do a raincheck...... but now its a GO!... and it's gonna be "Crazy"

I used the new beta version Miktek dynamic mics while i was on the road with H&O in Australia and they continue to impress me with every one of their mics.
I also just finished recording a new album with Ian Hunter and used the Mikteks on everything i could and they were stunning at every task i gave them.
Check them out, you will fall in love with them.

Would be curious to know your vocal chain for Ian Hunter? He has a unique voice.

The vocal chain was: Miktek CV4 -> JMK JM-130 mic pre -> ADL 1000.
The whole album was recorded to Protools 9 at 24/96k using the latest Avid HD 16 channel interfaces (I have 2)

Drums were recorded directly using my SSL AWS900+SE as the mic pre/EQ/channel

Guitars varied depending on the song

Bass was a Groove Tubes Vipre

I took pictures and kept notes during the process and will post it when the album gets released (not sure just when yet)
The whole album process took 14 days from start to finish and as always with Ian, Andy & his killer band, is one of the greatest projects I am blessed to do.
We also will be releasing the album at 24/96k for people who enjoy high bit rate recordings.

I'm looking forward to the album. Your description makes my adrenaline pump. Sounds like it was a great gig!

Should be by late springtime if all goes smooth with record/distribution company. He has a bunch of touring planned too, so if he is anywhere near ya'll you should go see him and his killer band, its one heck of a show..... Blows me away every time! Ian is a musical legend and this album is one of his best.
