Question Solid firewire interface for live use?

I've been using an 828 for a long time and its really been solid. Its actually the very first 828 and I got it a week within when it came out. MOTU was the first to introduce a firewire soundcard if I remember correctly. I used to use it for everything, but now I only use it for live shows.... still solid!

I've been thinking about replacing it only because it would help to have at least one midi in/out on my interface. I know that the newer MOTU's have that, but I've been out of the loop so I was wondering other peoples' thoughts and other experiences on other soundcards, might be.

Reliability is key since would be in a live setting!

We use MADI now on all our remote gigs. It carries audio/clock/midi info at 64 channels!

I use Metric Halo, -- 2882+dsp and ULN-2. Extremely reliable.

I was actually thinking about something a little cheaper - under $1000 for sure. 8 ins, 8 outs - is fine.

Any other users out there? ...I mean who are using something for live shows?

I would find a used fireface and if you need the midi, use a m-audio uno. Those work perfect for $20. Everyone says fireface is reliable. You will need some external pres though.
