Talking Live Concert Audio Clean Up - Help??

Hi- I have a situation where I am working with a videographer who filmed a live concert at an arena for a country band.....needless to say he used the on-board camera mic for audio.

He has asked me to clean-up the audio as best I can....and I am fearing the mic is distorted beyond repair (basically distorts during kick drum hits during the concert)

I am using PTLE 7.1, stock plug-ins. I have tried some EQ, BF Clip Remover, lowering Gain, Adding Reverb to mask it, etc.

Can't seem to find anything that helps and thought I would see if anyone else has any suggestions if they have worked on something similar.

Thanks in advance!

X-Crackle might do the trick (don't be afraid to process the distorted audio more than once as it usually takes several 'zaps' to start getting rid of excessive distortion). You should be able to download a demo of the 'Restoration' bundle from the Waves site;

If you can post a sample, it's easier to check what could be done with it

Thanks! I will get a sample uploaded this evening and several other people I talked to recommend the Waves restoration bundle, so I will look into getting that as well.

I would contact the folks at Cedar. Send them a clip. They do their magic, and give you a quote.

Those guys can do miracles.

I think X-Crackle can help you with that file, maybe even running a few passes of it (use "Extreme Crackle Reduction")....I tried a few passes with it on your file and it helps soften the problem a bit.

You could also try X-Noising out some of the crowd noise to subdue it a bit (not too much or it gets weird).....

After that, experiment with EQ-ing the harsher frequencies to soften the harshness that remains.

If you don't have Waves, you can install the 14 day demo and try it out.

Played with Izotope RX for some minutes, I guess you
can easyly get better results with time. Still quite difficult
project...
Try the demo!

I use Waves (restoration Bundle) & it's quite good at removing clicks, crackles & digital clips, but as mentioned before you might need to run the filter several times... You might also try using Soundreplacer for the kick drum afterwards...
