Talking Herbie Hancock - Possiblities. You NEED to see this.

Just wanted to put my plug in for this film. It's on Showtime and HBO right now and I watched it yesterday during my 3 months Direct TV free trial. Herbie has to be one of the greatest players of all time and getting the opportunity to watch the creative process with each guest artist during each session for this record is quite fascinating. I also found that the recording techniques were interesting. He tracks most of the time in a single room (as I'm sure he did with Miles). Most of the time there frankly was not much isolation (except for a large tarp over the piano). Anyhow, this film is outstanding and quite frankly was fun to watch. I've taken a break from the studio for the last 5 months (new baby) and it made me ready to get back to it...

Congrats on the baby.
My first was born on Feb 15th.
"Break from the studio" is a nice way to put it.

I have a DVR, not TIVO. However, my wife, who barely understands the things I am into, always manages to find and record shows I didn't even know were coming on. One night I came home to find this show recorded.

I think I'll keep the wife a while longer.

don't bother switching- which ever one you have, the stuff you really want to see will be on the other one.

I gotta mention - I haven't seen the film yet, but I heard the piece Herbie did on this album with Annie Lennox. Two things - 1) the piano is exceptionally beautiful sounding, 2) Annie's voice matches that beauty, (ok 3 things) 3), the tune they crafted is equally beautiful, 4) I don't think the recording quality and overall production could be any better.

5) I tried to buy the single on iTunes, buy you have to buy the whole album to get it. I'm not real interested in the other tracks, if they're much like the overplayed one on the radio with John Mayer.

I saw that about a month ago and it was excellent. It may not be on anymore now...

Great to see Herbie work with all those heavyweights and he's truly "the man" when it come to anything with keys in it.

I really enjoyed it and recommend it for all GS...
