Looking for NYC Studio: Big Room To Record in

Hey all.

I am looking for a Studio in NYC with a big/quiet enough room to catch a nice natural verb for acoustic instruments. Need some 5-6 nice pres and a nice mic cabinet but nothing fancy besides this and PT.

Queens, Brooklyn, slightly north of Manhattan, all good.

Any recommendations?

Either Legacy A509 in Manhattan (Used to be Right Track) or Kaufman Astoria in Queens. Both of those rooms will do. They are not cheap, but what is in NYC?

Thanks.

Anyone ever record at a studio around Calyer/Diamond in Brooklyn? Has a nice big room. PM with info if you have it.

Thanks!

The only big room in Brooklyn I've been to is called "Systems Two". Or is it "Systems Too?" Anyway, it's actualy a medium-large room. Kaufman Astoria and Legacy have more of a "room sound". Clinton has a bit less. There's always "Manhattan Centre Studios" in the old Hotel New Yorker near Penn station. It's an ballroom with a stage and balcony.

other big studios

agreed Systems Two is fine, but doesn't have much for room sound.

how about Sear Sound (midtown) and Brooklyn Recording (Carroll Gardens)? is the Edison at the Edison Hotel (also midtown) exclusively private, or is it still book-able? that's a great big room that sounds good. and Bennett studios in/near Englewood Cliffs NJ?

cheers,
-c

Sear is my favourite studio, but it's rather dead. Low celing. The Edison is private and Bennett can be okay but hard to control. I still say that Kaufman Astoria and Legacy A509 are the best rooms for a good room sound. Avitar is okay too, but not nearly as big as Kaufman and Legacy.

I don't know Brooklyn Recording.

BTW, the studio at Jazz @ Lincoln Center is a great room with fantastic sound. The problem there is you have to rent the room from J@LC and rent the control room seperatly from XM radio. Too expensive! Better off at Legacy.
