Question Best headset wireless mics?

Hi guys

I know this forum is technically for recording equipment but I bet lots of you guys do live sound too!!

Ok I need three wireless headset mics for a female, hi pitched male and a baritone.

Any suggestions?

I have a audio technica freeway but I have been pretty unsatisfied with it.

I would like to keep it to under $1000 a pop too!

Nobody has an opinion on these?

Come on guys. If you don't have positive suggestions I'll take the negative too!!

So which ones do you like? Which ones do you hate?

I would use Sennheiser ew 300 G2 series with either an HSP 2-ew or HS 4-ew headmic.

ew 100 G2 series if money is a bit tight (but you'll regret not getting the 300 later).

Thanks for the response. I was reading up on the Sennheiser and it looks really good. I'm trying to figure out if several mics can work with the one receiver.

Does it work this way?

If so how many inputs can the one receiver accept? If I could have wireless guitar too that would be really cool.

So would one receiver accept signals from:

2-3 headset mics
1-2 instruments

Yeah, put as many transmitters as you want on one receiver. But know that you cannot use any of them at the same time. It's good to have options.

I have had good luck with the Countryman E6. For wireless systems the Sennheiser Evolution series is an excellent bang for the buck. I don't think you get transmitter battery display on the receiver until you get into the 500 line, but that's a great feature.

Same here: nice results with Countryman E6i earset microphone and Sennheiser transmitter. Nice sound, loud and not sensitive to feedback.
I always secure the Countryman with a little piece of transparant tape next to the ear.

If you want to spent more money on the microphone use the DPA 4066.

Clear surgical tape works very well for that. I use it all the time for lavs in theatre work.

For every transmitter you need a separate receiver on a different frequency.

Two (or more) transmitters on he same frequency fight with each other.

Assuming ew 300 G2 series - you need a separate receiver for each transmitter and one or two ASP 2 antenna splitters - you also need a couple of AB 2 antenna boosters and a couple of NT 2 power supplies. Each PSU will power the head amps and up to four receivers via the ASP 2.

John (or anybody that knows)

What makes the ew300 superior to the ew100?

Sound quality is the same.

But....................
  • Number of channels is doubled (8 instead of 4 per bank).
  • Rackmount is included with the kit (costs extra with the 100).
  • Dual colour display that goes (or flashes) red if there is a problem.
  • Battery status transmitted to receiver (and receiver flashes red when it needs changing).
  • Much easier to use multi-channel.
The price difference is small (£100 in the UK) and when you consider that you get the rackmount in the price, and all the other bits listed above, I would not even think about 100 (unless it's for a single unit system).

My personal reasonings.

The color changing of the display backlight can be a real life saver with performers turning off their transmitter "to save batteries" when they go off stage ...

This feature by itself is for me worth the price difference!

So the 300 series transmits the battery status. I stand corrected, thanks for that information. I agree that the backlight colors are a big help.

This stuff is is all true. Rack mount is handy and tidy.
The back light changing is a very handy feature. Running on double A batteries is also nice. I've been running them on rechargeables and get hours of performance from each charge.
When the batteries go it does not distort like other units it just shuts down and the screen goes red. Much better in oppion.

I like these puppies so much I now have two ew300 with headset mics and might get another.

I have an AT setup and have also used a shure setup and the ew300 is much better than these cheaper alternative. I did 9 gigs with these over the summer. My band uses three wireless mics so to have these work well is essential.

Correction - you get transmitter battery display with the 300 as well as 500.

Only the 100 does not have transmitter battery status display on the receiver.
