isolation headphones for live to 2 track

Found this already...

http://gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...5&pagenumber=4

I'm trying to do some crazy subtle stuff on headphones, mixing ambient mics in with the main pair for live to 2 track. Of course anything bleeding in makes it really hard... Usually the mixer is right next to the source too.

Anybody have any great solutions for this one? Must isolate very, very well and sound very, very good... can be pretty spendy if it works great.

Ted,

We've been selling the Extreme Isolation cans out here in NZ and the general feedback has been pretty good. The sound is not hyped like a lot of cans, ie, not overly bright, but you get used to it pretty quickly. The isolation is very good and they are built like a brick **** house. Would recommend you give them a try at least.

Tim.

Not sure if it was covered in the thread you link, but Remote Audio HN-7506s are excellent. They are loud/efficient, are fairly accurate, and the outside noise reduction is an experience you have to experience to appreciate. They are especially great for tweaking mics when near the source. I personally could not work the way I do without them.

I have been listening to CDs through them alot lately too, and have been impressed. They are actually fun to listen with, as they have plenty of non-hyped bass. Very clear. Not sure what transducers are used, but they aren't cheapo pricepoint ones. Great speakers with extreme isolation; what more could you want?

From what I've read about the Extreme Isolation phones, I doubt they would work well for my fussy fussy thing. Still, for the dough, could be well worth it to have a pair on hand.

Thanks for the tip on the Remote Audio's- I look them up.
The Etymotics in-ear's got some good notice on that other thread, including from the esteemed Bob Olhsson- neat thing with them, you can slap some hearing protectors on top and get crazy isolation.

Anybody else?

I seem to be alone on this, but I've found the Beyer DT770s to be a great all-around set of headphones, and isolation is one of their many strongpoints. They may not be as tight as a system designed with isolation as the only goal, but they are a lot tighter than most other closed-type headphones and they still sound better than just about any model that I have tried. (sound better as in honest, real version of what's on tape)

They're not cheap, but for my money they are a bargain.

Yeah, I really dig my Etymotics. They sound great, and have great isolation, and, as you mentioned, with a set of headphone style hearing protectors, I can get a ton of isolation!

If you feel most comfortable with cans, I would recommend the Remote Audio HN-7506's or the Sennheiser HD-280Pro's. Both are highly regarded with unusually high isolation.

If you can get used to in-ear monitors, we can fit the Etymotic ER-4's with custom molds for maximum isolation and preserved frequency response, or a pair of custom molded Sensaphonics dual driver in-ears.
