Question Diffuse-field Grid & Nose Cones DPA 4006

Does anybody make use of the Diffuse-field Grids & Nose Cones for the DPA 4006?

In which situations do you use them and what are the results?

In the 4003 (130V version of the 4006) which we use, this Diffuse field grids add a very distinct treble lift above approx 5Khz. The use is when the mic is being used at distances greater than mid (say more than 8-10 feet) from the source the grid compensates for the treble loss. In a brighter room the distance may be more like 12-15 feet.

At these distances the sound can be wooly. The Schoeps folks provide a whole different capsule with a HF lift, the DPA folks sell you the grids/diffusors.

The actual eq curve is in the manual.

BTW, if you keep the diffuse grid and close mic, the 4003/6 will instantly provide the sound of the famous AKG C1000.

I use the nose cones when recording organs. I just like the sound, and they are supposed to make the mic a true omni.

I am also going to try my DPAs with nose cones on a jazz drumset per the DPA website. I always liked minimal drum micing and this will get my 3 down to 2, but a D12 will ride along just in case.
