Question Need a live music venue in Arizona...

I have a gig doing live sound and lights for a touring dance competition...I will be in Arizona in two weeks and I am looking to book a quick Sat. night show for my feisty little punk rock band.

We are based out of New York City and don't know the cool places to play out west.

Does anyone have a place in mind or perhaps some contact info for a club in the Tempe or Phoenix area?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Start with Mythos on Scottsdale, at least for a first call :
Where the music is: Club Mythos

It's been a few years since I have lived there but you might try Jugheads (or J-Heads I think it's called now). Chasers in Scottsdate has an eclectic mix of bands on occasions. Phoneix New Times is the local rag there for all the music information.

Talking Anything bigger?

Actually we are on a makeshift West Coast tour with a brand new E.V. rig and an intelligent moving light show.

I was hoping for something bigger and want to avoid the hassle of dealing with a concert promoter on this one.

I have heard of the Marquee in Tempe - any ideas on how to book a quick gig at a place like that?

Thanks again for the advice.

Wasserdude

P.S. We are in Dallas TX tonight and tomorrow. Yee Haw!

You should also post something on Craigslist (Phoenix area).

Marquee theatre is great if you can get booked there here is their #:
(480) 829-0607
730 N Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281

Also maybe try here:

The Sets in Tempe, AZ

Or even Alice Cooperstown in downtown PHX, by the ballpark...

The Marquee is run by a booking agency that does pay-to-play, recommend you stay away. The Sets might not be a bad deal and they used to have radio sponsored nights. Unfortunately I don't remember the station but I'm sure you can do a little Googeling. Another favorite of mine was Joe's Grotto but it's mostly rock/metal. Worth a try though. Not many bigger venues in Phoenix that are worth your bother.

The band I work with is playing the Marquee for the second time in the spring. It's a nice place, friendly staff (except for the monitor engineer). I can't remember the capacity, but it's the largest venue in the area. I'm not sure about the "pay to play" comment, but we definitely GOT paid. If you're trying to avoid using a promoter then you may have to rent the hall, but I'm not exactly sure how that would work out.
