Talking Røde K2 useful?

A client of mine would like to trade in a pair of K2's for some editing time. I see that Rainbow Studio in Norway have them on their list so they can´t be that bad. Any comments on their sound quality? I have no urgent need for them but you never know, they might be magical on something?

Thanks!

Well, they're not exactly magical, but the K2 is a surprisingly solid mic. I have one. I've used it for male vox, room, outside kick and acoustic guitar with pretty damn good results. It's more neutral than a lot of tube LDCs. Nice gentle roll off in the highs. A pair would be a good thing to have. I replaced the tube in mine with a NOS mullard tube. Gave the mic a little more pronounced low end and smoother top. You'll dig em'. I say go for it. The K2 is a fairly versatile mic. It's hard to beat for the $. I have some medium-high $ LDCs' and the K2 stays in the rotation.

They sound good on snares, overheads, bass, guitars and vocals. I think I would use it as more of a "utility" mic than a "featured" mic if that makes any sense.
