Talking new business plan, what do you think ?

I dont see any bisness forum on the site so I'll post here if its ok :

I've been in this bisness for about 15 years now and due to a relocation last year I must admit that the studio has been going slower this past year, so I need to do something pretty quickly to get some cash in.
I started out as a live sound tech and I think I want to go back to that and give it a try ....but....I think that a lot of the local bands here already have what they need for sound reinforcement. So I want to be able to record the band live as well, during the concert, then I would mix the live at the studio, and ask the band to pay a little more for the mixing. So that's the plan, what do you think ? Any of you do this ?

For a band to "want" a recording of their show, it better be something special. (The word 'want' with quotation marks around it means "will pay money for.")

So, either you have a system and the skills that will create an incredible, liver-than-live document of the show, and the room sounds great, and they had a spectacular night, and the solos were excellent, and they whipped the crowd into such a frenzy that the whole experience transcended the bonds of this earth... or...

Bands that are playing week after week, the same material over and over, the value of having any one show recorded can be minimal.

I think it's doable, but, as Joel pointed out, a band has to want the recording. I wonder how often a band will ask you to record, but then hate their performance and not want it. I guess, just make sure they pay you before you record the gig, so at least you have something to show for the hard work.

I can relate to your situation though, it's tough. I guess you just have to be open-minded and flexible.

Well the first thing is the sound reinforcement then the recording would be the addition that would make the difference between me and the places that rent gear without a tech and the bands that have the gear but would maybe like to have someone do it for them and why not record at the same time.
The recording would be with no additional charge but the mixing , if they want it, would be a little more, this part I'm not sure yet...
