Talk about a SWEET venue-- for performers, for the crowds, and for the remote guy called in to to record the farewell concert of local favorites Blue Hand Luke. This is one of those old warehouses converted into an ideal performance space: nice 'n high stage on one wall, lots of open floor for the grooving fans, horseshoe-shaped balcony with tables and chairs. Packs in two hundred very comfortably--but the most extraordinary thing is the sound system, and the way it's been fine-tuned to the hall. The whole low end is so soothingly gut-punching-- I've been in clubs where the kick is so brutal, so obnoxious and annoying you wanna scream-- this place, it was hefty and solid without being the slightest bit fatiguing--the sound guy explained that the room resonates at 80 Hz, and so they concentrate the kick at just a slightly lower range. Whatever they do, it works fantastically. Light show, fog machine... the works. Crest board for front of house, GML board for monitors to the side of the stage-- after I set up some mics to capture the stage, I just kept plugging into the direct outs until I ran out of cables. Breezy, man. Also-- I set my HD24 on my coat, because I'd heard tales of pounding bass somehow interfering with the hard drive, knocking it out of record or something. No problems at all. It doesn't hurt that the crew is ultra-cool, helpful and friendly. Beautiful women tending the bar, too--but you knew that.

Very true. I rolled past there last night on my way home from a restaurant on the same street, and the walls were pounding so hard I paused and wondered about the system setup inside. Incredibly clear bass tones coming through those walls into the street. Punchy punchy punchy! Have yet to go inside though. |

I was there in November and can't for the life of me remember what it's like. Looking through the photos on the website doesn't help (Streetlight Manifesto was the band if you want to check it out). Was there an LED backdrop? Was the dance floor/pit on a lower level than the rest of the floor, with a banister wrapping around? Front of house is on the left side of the club? They had an MH3 there in November. We record every show to HD24 and it was very easy to patch into the console, and there was plenty of room for the 14 space rack in the booth. We should be back that way in late April/early May. I hope to see you there, Joel (and anyone else in the area is welcome to come out too).

Thread Starter | You're thinking of the screen they pull down infront of the curtains and then there's a projector that cycles through announcements... or is probably all set up for whatever multimedia extravaganza you want! The guy running the light show was brilliant, accenting the dynamics of each song with a smattering of very tasty effects, strobes, swirling spotlights, an endless series of moves and effects. You actually remember it pretty clearly for someone who can't remember it. I hear the stage is slightly higher than it used to be... now it's about five feet off the ground, but the whole floor and entrance is all on street level. But if you don't remember the brunette serving drinks... I mean, come on! See you in the Spring! |

I try to stay FAR away from the bars. I don't make enough money to drink like I would want to if a hot brunette was serving me. Maybe that's how you guys take the cold. I'm in Jersey, so I thought I was used to the cold weather... until I went to Buffalo. November 7th I think was in the teens and I saw people [outdoor] shopping in shorts and t-shirts! I remember peeing outside and it literally froze as it hit the asphalt. Maybe in the spring I'll only need 3 layers of clothing. | |

Thread Starter | We'd call that "ice sculpture," quite an art really. Here's a sample of the middle band that night, neither the headliners nor the openers... I think it's one of these bands with bitter inner warfare and people quitting in a rage... they can't even call themselves the Decadent Royals anymore, they've had to change their name to just the Royals... anybody been there? |

Hey, Joel (and anyone else in the area): It looks like I'll be there April 30th, so if you want to stop by and see some crazy punk/ska kids doing the "skank" then let me know.

Great little GS gathering last night in Troy at Revolution Hall. Thanks again to Thomas (running FOH) and Joel - great time! The show sounded great, though the crazed 16 year olds dancing to punk/ska was one of the most bizarre things I've witnessed in person. They were so coordinated, yet so.... not. It's a beautiful venue, but was a bit small and squarish. One was reminded of a Mad Max cage fight, but it SOUNDED fantastic! Anyway, always fun to get some GS'ers together. |

Yeah, cool time, great to see you again Seth! Of course I couldn't resist writing a mini-review of the show... http://www.gearslutz.com/board/all-a...-de-house.html I particularly liked the way that what this new generation of performers does is hurl open bottles of water out to crowd, and whoever grabs it wings it around and sprays everyone... such harmless fun, charming! |
