Talking New System? Mid Sized Budget... Location Sound Recording

So, I'm new here, and honestly try to stray away from forums... (not that they aren't great, just i get confused by all the commotion)... But, eh... You all seem on top of stuff.

I have just found my way into some pretty high profile gigs maybe including some location sound for Ornette Coleman and possibly other greats in the jazz idiom. With this coming, i decided to plunk the money down for a nice mobile rig. (The Ornette shoot is in HD and i figure i would shoot for the top.) I have nice front end, (Old Neve's, Millenia, API, some Boutique pre's from various places...) And access to great mics...

Now with this great front end and artists... My only problem is I'm sick of my HD rig's sound... And frankly, I'm sick of ProTools. Recently i've been working off of Logic/Nuendo, (Both i own) and want to just boot the Digi stuff out. I've heard both Prism's and Apogee's. And i had a great experience with a HEDD192.

So, what would you all suggest for a 10,000 system to run VERY STABLE with say nuendo or logic on a mac pro... looking for basically 16+ ins and atleast a mix out if not maybe 8 outs. (it's a location rig, so i don't need a lot of outs... Rather have more Ins).

(I'm thinking Apogee Symphony/ADX16 or 2, especially becuase of the stability with my Mac and maybe a HEDD or 2 for character/DAC's).

Any help and possible reviews/clips would be much appreciated!

It sounds like you already have most of what you need to do some very nice work. Although it breaks your $10k budget, my short answer would be to buy a Radar, and use that for your main recorder. (You might find a good deal on a used unit) The Radar converters will easily hold their own against the Apogees. Fill out your pre selection with some transparent 'non-color' units such as the True Systems Precision 8. A small Mackie, etc. console would be an inexpensive way to monitor the Radar, and you can mix ITB on the HD rig to monitor that system. Use your existing pre's and split them passively. (The Precision 8's have dual outputs) Your PT HD rig has now effectively become your backup recorder, and the Radar will bring the sonics and the stability. (Along with 24 tracks) Plus, if, the client wants the project in Pro Tools format, take the Radar tracks, and simply import them into a Pro Tools session. As I said, it breaks the $10k limit, but it solves your primary problem of not liking the sonics of PT HD, and it also gives you the redundancy you MUST have for the high profile gigs you will be doing. And congrats on the Ornette Coleman gigs, I envy you :-)
