Thoughts on MADI?

Has anyone implemented MADI on their trucks? It may be a silly question, but I've yet to see anyone use it to its full extent. I know Sony is a big proponent with it on the baby oxford, and I've heard of a few guys doing short runs with it, but has anyone done some 200ft runs with it? Is it truly stable enough to rely on it?

I'm designing a mobile vehicle from the ground up. New chassis, custom box etc. One variation of the design, I have the preamps at the rear of the truck. With the signals going to the head of the truck to get to the meat gear. A thought crossed the mind to leave a provision to try MADI. From the preamps, I could use the euphonix or RME format converter and then use another translation on the console/recorder side. Now I know this is only a short distance, but the added benefit this would give me is already having an infrastructre in place if I wanted to try to place the pres on the stage and use MADI from there.

This is early in the game, and I'm designing based on the "tried and true" methods, but I was curious if its even worth my time to think about MADI at all, Thoughts?

Jim Fox has been using the RME MADI stuff and raves about it.

Thanks all...

Since posting this, I've reseached and spoken to a bunch of people on it. Sounds like its rock solid, and I'll have a chance to play with some MADI gear in a couple of weeks to test configurations, what I like, what I don't like etc. Based on this, I decided to go ahead and spec'd in a MADI system as one of my methods of signal delivery to the truck. I'll also have standard discrete inputs, but the MADI is in the infrastructure plan.

More often then not, I'm planning on using the preamps on stage. The preamp output will be converted to MADI and then sent to the truck where it'll be converted back to ADAT and routed to the console/recorders. This provides a solid input path with redundancy if needed. The discrete input mechanism is just provided for "standard" operation, just in case one of the critical MADI pieces of gear fails. (Somehow I think "Uh...I can't record the gig...my router is down" won't cut it...) :)

Thanks again for the help
