Hi Matts
How do you go from lavry aes out to RME UFX ?
The Lavry is set to 88.2 or 96 KHz. It's connected to the Mutec MC4, which is an asynchronous D/D converter. It resamples the AES signal asyncronously to ADAT to whatever sample rate the UFX is set to. So both the Lavry and UFX are set as digital master... It works surprisingly well.
The Audient mic preamp is usally slaved to the UFX, but it acted as master this night because I didn't bring a long enough word clock cable. So for once, the UFX was set to slave to the ADAT2 input. Doesn't really matter that much, because the UFX sounds equally good in slave or master mode.
I built the custom shelving inside; used velcro so it's adjustable.
It's nothing compared to others here, but it does run on batteries.
I just tape local stuff for friends; acoustic concerts and small club shows.
I enjoy working with stuff in post.
New rack. I bought a cheap rack and made a breakout panel for my Babyface sound card. Now this interfaces with my bigger UFX rack if needed and I can use it standalone for 10 mic inputs.
All that's needed for surround recording with spot mics is this, a bag with computer/mics/cables and one for the stands. I could even do simple corporate live sound gigs with it using an ipad as control surface.
Hey,
I did the audio engineering for the Canadian version of Ted talks.
I was in charge for the internet/ radio and television audio.
kinda intense but a real blast. I was in a soundproof room by myself while the producers, switchers, video, directors, were all crammed in one room.
i know this is off topic, i been trying to figure out how to start my own post on here but can't find the link..
my question is, how do you go about safety procedures on your mobile recording gigs? My fear is that i show up somewhere and the client robs me of my gear.
also when do you make your clients pay you right before you start recording or after? any advice helps thanks

You need to dump the "Gangsta" clientel. but seriously, if you feel that way about your client, you should either turn the show down or make sure you are covered financially before you start.
If you think the show is somewhere your gear will be stolen, you should discuss security with your client, unless it's him you think is going to steal it, or worse, you are planning to rob him!

2- direct outs from Yamaha M7CL going into HD24s, API 3124 for audience mics, all clocked by Apogee Big Ben
my rig has changed a bit since posting in this thread a few years ago. currently, and RME Raydat PCIe card is at the center of this. Eventually would like to move to HD Native and more IO on the Symphony IO.
I recently built my medium sized rig for smaller gigs that require more than two mics. The premiere for this was a friend of mine's organ concert in S:t Clara Church yesterday. It features an Audient Preamp, a Babyface and a breakout panel for my the audio interface. All carried to and from the gig on the subway/bus. This was more of a proof of concept test to see if the setup would work practically.
People would come and go as they pleased and Stockholm Pride brought a lot people to the town so there was a quite apparent background noise to drown out with the loud organ.
Recorded for surround sound @2496 using a pair of Microtech M296 and Line Audio CM3 as surround mics (left out in this mix) throught the Audient preamp. It's gone through RX too...

It's an interesting sound. I like your portable setup. Have you tried to record with all 8 channels on the Audient?

I've used it at 48k for live sound and recording with my UFX, glitch free and sounding quite nice. However not yet for multichannel classical work. This was the first try and the Babyface is limited to 4 channels of ADAT at 96k. 6 channels in total with the built in A/D.
It's not nearly as flashy or cool as a lot of the equipment I see here, and it certainly isn't high end. But you have to start somewhere, right?
This is my 14 channel rig, Mackie CR-1604 and a Tascam US-1641. The band I am tracking next week is planning a cassette release, so I have my Tascam 424 MKIII patched in (I will be bringing a MK1 to bounce too as well). This will be my first real outing for on location recording, so wish me luck!
The mixer is mainly for the nicer mic pre's and signal routing for headphone mixes and the like. Monitors are some home built kit speakers (someday I will get real ones) and my Stax SR-Lambda Pro headphones (Main reason I haven't had a need to get real monitors yet) and my Bayre Dynamic DT-100 if I need some isolation.
This is my first post. Been cruising GS for awhile now. Since I put together this rig I figured I should become a part of the community.

Im mainly going to record bands but am always up for anything that may come my way! It's pretty portable and used it to record a few bands this last sunday running 12 simultaneous channels into ProTools
I LOVE those monitor cases! Did you have these custom made?
p.
They certainly look custom made.
But I wouldn't actually *use* the monitors while they are in the case - the edge diffraction would be something horrible and the cases would likely affect the sound quite a lot.
With all those twin removable lids, they would be pretty expensive as well.
I had a special case made for my monitors which protects them well and has a cable area.
I also had a padded bag made as an option with a cable area in the top and Astroboard between the two sections to prevent damage.
I had another padded bag made for the table stands so I don't turn up with battered stands.

Well, your monitor cases are looking great as well!
Not as cute, but still... :-)
